Four MNOs better than three, says competition chairman

Answering a question about possible concentration in the French mobile market, competition authority chairman Bruno Lasserre told Le Figaro that "A return to three operators is not desirable... I would be wary of such mergers". France has had four MNOs since the start of last year, with Free Mobile's aggressive pricing putting pressure on the others. Speculative reports have pointed to tie ups between SFR and Free or SFR and MVNO Numericable. Lasserre said Free Mobile was good for competition and the effects of the move from three to four MNOs would become clear in 10 or 15 years. The
