Foxconn ships 1.4 mln iPhones to China Mobile - report
Major Apple iPhone assembler Foxconn has shipped around 1.4 million iPhone 5S devices to China Mobile recently. This initial shipment, which does not represent the total sales at China Mobile for January, comes ahead of China Mobile's iPhone launch on 17 January, the Wall Street Journal writes citing an unnamed source familiar with the matter. The initial batch may help to gauge early demand for iPhones from China Mobile. The company has been taking pre-orders for the iPhone since 25 December. 

China Mobile Chairman Xi Guohua said millions of Apple's iPhones already have been ordered by the carrier's customers. Speaking at a media briefing, Apple CEO Tim Cook said he is "incredibly optimistic" about the outcome of the cooperation with the Chinese carrier and expects it to lead to further work together. He added that Apple's sales already hit a record high in Greater China in the fiscal first quarter.

Foxconn's key client accounts for half of revenues in 2013

Electronics manufacturer Hon Hai Precision Industry's (Foxconn Electronics) main customer represented over 50.6 percent of the firm's overall revenues in 2013, up compared to 47.77 percent the previous year, the Digitimes reports. Apple grows smartphone share to 7% in China in Q4

Apple's market share in mainland China rose to 7 percent in the fourth quarter from 6 percent in the third quarter, the Wall Street Journal reports citing data from IDC. Foxconn to invest USD 1 bln in Indonesia

Electronics manufacturer Hon Hai Precision Industry (Foxconn Electronics) has signed a letter of intent to invest up to USD 1 billion in Indonesia. The investments, which would be in Jakarta province, will be completed in three to five years and range from R&D, electronics software design, and internet business to manufacturing and assembly of electronics products, AFP reports. Detailed investment plans are expected to be presented to local authorities in three months.

China Mobile recently began selling the Apple 5S and 5C, but according to Kantar Worldpanel, 63 percent of all Apple handsets in China already operated on China Mobile's network at the end of Q3. Foxconn in talks to set-up US facilities

Electronics manufacturer Hon Hai Precision Industry (Foxconn Electronics) is in talks with several US states to set-up factories closer to its major clients, the South China Morning Post writes. Foxconn chairman Terry Gou said that any US investment would not be for labour-intensive manufacturing but focus on knowledge- and content-based skills. Meanwhile, Reuters reports that Gou also said that it is still looking at Indonesia to set-up production facilities.

The Taipei District Prosecutors Office is taking legal action against several former employees of Hon Hai Precision Industry (Foxconn Electronics) over bribery allegations. Six suspects - three former employees and three suppliers - were summoned for questioning, The Digitimes reports. Foxconn said it will fully cooperate with law-enforcement in the ongoing investigation.

China Telecom, Unicom reduce iPhone prices

China Telecom and China Unicom are reducing contract prices for Apple iPhone 5s and 5c handsets. The price of the iPhone 5s is reduced by CNY 800 for on China Telecom's CNY 189 mobile plan and by as much as CNY 1,288 on operator's CNY 289 plan, The China Post reports. China Mobile expands 4G handset range

China Mobile has expanded its 4G handset range to 13 devices, from four when it launched the service three weeks ago. China Mobile to sell iPhones from 17 January

Apple and China Mobile have officially announced they have entered into a multi-year agreement to bring the iPhone to China Mobile's TD-LTE and TD-SCDMA networks.
