France entrusts Orange with universal service for three more years

The French ministry for the Economy and Finance has published a decree confirming that Orange has retained the universal service contract for three more years, requiring the operator to provide basic phone and internet services to all households. As part of its commitments, Orange must deliver copper and fibre-based services for at least 99 percent of connections, while up to 1 percent can be provided using last-mile alternatives such as wireless or satellite systems.
