France favours European equipment maker concentration

Alcatel-Lucent probably does not have enough critical mass to finance its R&D, notably in mobile, French digital economy minister Fleur Pellerin told Les Echos. When asked if she was in favour of concentration by Eurpean equipment makers, she said that the European market is fragmented, so it makes sense on paper to create a large European equipment maker. The matter has become a political question, therefore discussions must be held with other European governments and she and her German counterpart have already spoken about it.
