France hits pause on smartphone tax

Tuesday 17 September 2013 | 17:09 CET | News
French culture minister Aurelie Filippetti told Le Monde that a tax on smartphones and tablets proposed in a May report by former Canal Plus CEO Pierre Lescure to finance the creative industries would not be included in the 2014 finance bill. Filippetti told Le Monde the tax would not be introduced next year because of the government's so-called "tax pause". The minister added that the tax would be tabled again in time for the 2015 finance bill.
