France-IX offers faster interconnection with new PASS service

Thursday 16 May 2019 | 12:43 CET | News
Internet exchange point (IXP) France-IX announced the launch of PASS (Peering As a Supplementary Service) for members who have a direct peering port in either of its locations of Paris or Marseille. Without needing a physical port in the other city, members opting for PASS will gain access and peering privileges to that location. As a result, those with a direct peering connection in Paris will be able to peer with more than fifteen unique networks in Marseille, while members in Marseille will be able to peer with over 350 unique networks in Paris.

As an added advantage, members at the two locations will also benefit from increased resiliency on their interconnections with current peers through two direct paths delivered by two different providers, one routed through Lyon and the other Clermont-Ferrand, via 100G DWDM optical network transport. This enables France-IX to reduce the RTD (round-trip delay) to below twelve milliseconds, making the two locations even closer.

PASS can be put in place in a matter of days, with no minimum contract commitment. The company said that the service will add 15-25 percent on the current recurring cost for an existing member.
