France mulls applying TV licence to all video supports

French culture minister Aurelie Filippetti announced on BFMTV/RMC that the government is looking into improving the finances of public broadcaster France Televisions/France Radio by asking taxpayers to pay a licence fee if they watch TV content on any support. AFP reports that until now only people with TVs pay, EUR 131 a year in mainland France and EUR 84 in overseas territories. The minister admitted that it would be impossible to check whether people are watching TV on PCs, tablets and phones. People would be given the possibility of declaring unequivocally on their annual residency tax
