France seeks to balance taxes of French firms, US giants

France's digital economy, finance and budget ministers have launched an initiative led by state legal counsel Pierre Collin and tax inspector Nicolas Colin which will report on how to balance the tax burden on French and US businesses before the end of the year. This could pave the way to a return of the so-called "Google Tax", which aims to bring taxation in line with the geographic area where revenues are generated, rather than third countries with a lower tax regime. Companies such as Google, Apple and Amazon turn over between EUR 2.5 and EUR 3 billion a year in France but only pay
