Free Mobile can use 1800 MHz for 4G from 1 January

French telecom regulator Arcep has issued a licence to Free Mobile to use 5 MHz duplex in the 1800 MHz frequency band. The regulator published guidelines in March 2013 on introducing technological neutrality into the 1800 MHz band, historically used for 2G. The guidelines sought to ensure a balanced allocation between the country's three existing mobile operators, Orange, SFR and Bouygues Telecom, and new entrant Free Mobile. Free Mobile will eventually be allocated 15 MHz duplex in this band. The new decision will allow Free Mobile to use 5 MHz throughout Metropolitan France from 1
