French auditor warns of growing cost for govt broadband plan

The French Audit Office (Cour des comptes) has published a report investigating the progress made by 'France THD' (Très Haut Débit), the broadband strategy launched by French President Francois Hollande in 2013 aiming to achieve nationwide coverage of fast broadband (at least 30 Mbps). The report has found that the plan's interim target is on track to be achieved (50 percent coverage by 2017), but has raised doubts over the goal to reach 100 percent of premises by 2022 (approximately 35 million households and businesses, of which at least 80 percent reached by FTTH services).
