French cabinet backs 99% population coverage for 4G - report

The French cabinet has approved a plan drawn up by telecommunications regulator Arcep for LTE (4G) licensing which calls on operators bidding for the four lots of 800MHz spectrum to commit to 99.6 percent population coverage, industry newsletter Euro TMT reports. Neither the government nor Arcep would comment to Les Echos, but a source close to the matter confirmed that the government had sought to set minimum coverage at 90 percent for two lots and 99 percent for the other two. The lower threshold was considered counterproductive by the regulator, as 4G is intended to deliver very high speed
