French consumer group launches compensation claim against Google in GDPR lawsuit

Thursday 27 June 2019 | 10:32 CET | News
French consumer association UFC-Que Choisir has filed a class action lawsuit against Google and its subsidiary Google Irlande in a Paris court, for violation of GDPR's consent standards. The consumer rights group said that it aimed to put an end to the company's "stealthy exploitation" of users' personal data, particularly of those using Android devices with a Google account. It is seeking EUR 1,000 in damages for each consumer participating in the class action, with 200 Google users having joined so far.
