French court orders Canal Plus to honour sublicense contract with BeIN Sports

Friday 6 August 2021 | 10:01 CET | News
The commercial court of Nanterre has ruled that Canal Plus must honour the sub-licensing contract for exclusive broadcasting rights to Ligue 1 matches that the broadcaster signed with BeIN Sports last year. As reported by Le Monde, Canal Plus would face a sanction of EUR 1 million for each day that it delays the full application of the verdict. As a result, the company will comply with the court order from this weekend, which sees the debut of a new football season, while continuing to fight the case in appeal.
