French digital council calls for reversal of 'Google tax'

France's public-private consultative body on internet policy, Conseil National du Numerique (National Digital Council), has officially called on the government to not apply a tax on online advertising that has come to be called the Google tax. The law requires that a 1 percent tax be levied on all advertisers whose revenue is above EUR 777,000 for product retailers and EUR 234,000 for service providers. The law due to come into effect on 1 July is completely out of step with the conclusions of the e-G8 Forum, does not meet its objectives and would be too complicated to apply, according to the
