French govt, regulator disagree on 4G licensing - report

A conflict has arisen between the French ministry of industry and telecommunications regulator Arcep over the price of 4G licences, due to be awarded in the first half of next year, writes Les Echos. At a time when reducing the government's budget deficit is a priority, the ministry wants the licences to bring in as much money as possible to the treasury. On the other hand, the regulator wants to ensure national mobile internet access by making cross-France coverage part of the terms and conditions. According to information gleaned by the newspaper, Arcep aims to raise at least EUR 2 billion
