French govt to extend vetting powers on foreign takeovers to data, AI sectors

France's finance minister Bruno Le Maire announced plans to extend the list of strategic industries in which the government has the power to veto foreign takeovers. In his New Year's speech to journalists, Le Maire said that data and artificial intelligence companies were among those targeted by the new measures, in order to protect the national interest in new sectors of the digital economy.
