French minister revives 'Google Tax' on news aggregators

French culture minister Aurelie Filipetti has revived the polemical Google Tax in an effort to force big internet companies that benefit from others' content, notably news copy, to finance news production. She told online news outlets Aqui.fr and Rue89 that these companies are earning money by giving away the product of French "grey matter" and not compensating authors. Big internet players should not be allowed to avoid paying more taxes in countries where they generate large revenues by basing their corporate headquarters elsewhere, She said.
