French minister sees alternatives to 'internet tax'

French digital economy minister Fleur Pellerin suggested on RTL radio that there were several alternatives, including competition law, to fight the tax optimisation practices of some multinational companies. Pellerin referred to a "competition asymmetry" and said she is not seeking a specific tax on the internet industry. She said that some groups, both French and European, pay corporate taxes and VAT when others, not all American, do not. The minister seeks equality of treatment. She floated the idea of an internet tax in February. Her remarks come in the wake of the French Telecom
