French music labels lose copyright case against YouTube

YouTube has won a legal battle over intellectual property rights and royalty payments in France as the Paris court that deals with claims over EUR 10,000, the Tribunal de Grande Instance (TGI), threw out a lawsuit from music labels' association SPPF (Societe des producteurs de phonogrammes en France). Le Monde reports that the association, founded to defend the rights of independent labels, sued YouTube for EUR 11 million in damages in May 2009, claiming that the company did not prevent the re-posting of copyrighted videos of its members.
