French president outlines two-phased fibre rollout

French president Francois Hollande announced during a visit to Clermont-Ferrand that despite budget difficulties, the country must prepare for the future. Addressing the fourth pledge of his electoral platform, making fast broadband available everywhere in France in 10 years. Back at the Elysee Palace, the head of state defended a two-phased approach with the first five years to bring high-speed broadband to half the country, including densely populated areas critical to France's competitiveness. The public sector will account for EUR 6 billion of the estimated EUR 20 billion investment
