French study finds connected devices driving digital sector's environmental footprint

A French study found that the environmental footprint of digital infrastructure and products is primarily driven by the devices used to go online, which account for an estimated 81 percent of the country's total. The finding is part of a report published by national telecom regulator Arcep as part of its ongoing work on digital sustainability and environmental protection. The second largest element within France's environmental footprint is data centre infrastructure (14%), followed by mobile and fixed networks (5%).
