French tax office wants EUR 198 mln from Amazon

The French tax office is seeking EUR 198 million of back-taxes, interest and fines from Amazon for allegedly transferring revenues made in France to its European headquarters in Luxembourg, where it benefits from a favourable corporate tax system. Reuters reports that French tax authorities are investigating the e-commerce group's tax returns for 2006-2010. In a document accompanying its third quarter results, Amazon said it disagreed with the USD 252 million amount and would contest it vigorously.
