FT, SFR draft FTTH deployment plans for mid-sized cities

French telecom operators have informed the government of which medium sized cities they wished to connect via fibre to the home (FTTH) and over what time frame, Les Echos reports. These preliminary indications will be adjusted and become binding later in the year, before a choice is made on which operator will fibre which geographic area. In such cities, where returns would be insufficient for operators to build competing fibre networks, the chosen carrier in each location will give competitors access to its infrasctructure and will benefit from preferential loans under the government's
