FTC considering fining Facebook for violating 2012 agreement on data privacy - report

The Federal Trade Commission may fine Facebook for violating a personal data privacy agreement it struck with the government in 2012, the Washington Post reported, citing sources familiar with the matter. The fine could go higher than the USD 22.5 million one imposed on Google in 2012 for tracking users of Apple's Safari web browser, but has not yet been finalised. The FTC has been investigating Facebook since last year and has been in touch with Facebook about the probe.
