FTTH Council Europe calls for end to 'fake fibre' ads

The FTTH Council Europe has published an open letter calling on EU Member States and telecom regulatory agencies to take action against misleading advertising of fibre-optic services. The industry body said operators are increasingly using "fibre" or "fibre speeds" in advertisements for copper-based broadband, when the advertised product is not genuinely based on a full fibre connection. The phenomenon risks undermining some of the key objectives of the new European Electronic Communications Code to incentivise very high capacity network investments and empower consumers in a transparent
