Fujitsu to combine PC business with Lenovo

Fujitsu has agreed to sell its PC business in Japan to Lenovo and form a new joint venture. Fujitsu will receive JPY 28 billion for a 56 percent stake in its operations and retain 44 percent going forward. The Development Bank of Japan will contribute JPY 2.5 billion of the purchase price and hold a 5 percent stake in the new venture.

Fujitsu said PCs will still be sold under its name in Japan, both to the consumer and business market, and it will provide after-sales support. At the same time, it's expected to benefit from Lenovo's increased operational scale and the DBJ's financial support.

The sale is expected to close in the first quarter of 2018.
