GCHQ has technology to hack smartphones - Snowden

US whistle-blower Edward Snowden claims that UK intelligence agency GCHQ has the power to hack smartphones without their owners' knowledge, reports BBC News. Speaking to 'Panorama' in Moscow, Snowden said that the agency could access a smartphone by sending an encrypted text message and use it to take control of the device. He did not suggest that GCHQ was interested in mass-monitoring of private communications of citizens, but said that it and the NSA had both invested heavily in technology to hack smartphones.
