The German Federal Network Agency said that over EUR 332 million was offered by the four bidders in the 5G spectrum auction in the first day. Eight rounds of bidding were held and all but one block of spectrum received bids.
In the 2 GHz frequency range, Vodafone bid up to EUR 27.5 million for multiple blocks and 1&1 offered up to EUR 25 million per block, while Deutsche Telekom and Telefonica's offers remained lower, at up to EUR 6.7 million.
In the 3.6 GHz frequency range, Deutsche Telekom offered EUR 23.8 million per block, 1&1 offered EUR 21.7 million, Telefonica Germany bid up to EUR 18.7 million and Vodafone bid EUR 20.6 million.
The 41 blocks of frequencies will be auctioned simultaneously and bidders can bid on several blocks. For each block, a minimum bid of between EUR 1.7 and EUR 5 million is required. Four operators - Deutsche Telekom, Vodafone, Telefonica Germany and 1&1 - are taking part in the auction. Germany could raise around EUR 3 billion by selling the frequencies.
