German 5G auction passes EUR 3 bln in bids, Deutsche Telekom leads spending

The German Federal Network Agency said that EUR 3.2 billion was offered by the four bidders in the 133rd round of the 5G spectrum auction. Deutsche Telekom accounts for nearly half that amount, at EUR 1.44 billion for 14 lots in total, and Vodafone Germany has made EUR 656 million in top bids for ten lots, mainly in the 3.6 GHz band. Telefonica Germany has bid the least, at EUR 397 million in total for only the 3.6 GHz band, while newcomer 1&1 Drillisch is in second place with EUR 688 million in bids, including two lots of 2 GHz spectrum and six blocks in the 3.6 GHz range. 

A total of EUR 1.63 billion in bids were lodged for the 2 GHz frequency range. Deutsche Telekom bid the highest amount of up to EUR 152.9 million and EUR 151.4 million for two blocks, followed by Vodafone with up to EUR 147.8 million. 1&1 offered up to EUR 147.4 million and EUR 146 million for two blocks. Telefonica did not bid in the round for the 2 GHz frequency range.

In the 3.6 GHz frequency range, bids totaled EUR 1.55 billion. Telefonica offered the highest amount of up to EUR 72.9 million for one block. 1&1 bid up to EUR 67.9 million for one block, closely followed by Deutsche Telekom with EUR 67.7 million, while Vodafone bid the lowest amount of up to EUR 2.9 million for one block.
