German BfDI commissioner sees state data collection mania

The German Federal Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (BfDI) Ulrich Kelber considers there to be a state data collection "mania", Heise Online reports. Moreover, some data are not deleted "for decades", he said. Kelber welcomed the decision by the Cartel Office to prohibit Facebook from collecting data of users of its services WhatsApp and Instagram, as well as third-party websites with Facebook integration.
