German Cartel Office calls for new rules to award rights to broadcast Bundesliga games

The Federal Cartel Office (Bundeskartellamt) has called on the German Football League (DFL) to devise a system that creates competition among providers for broadcasting Bundesliga matches, the Deutsche Presse Agentur reported citing the head of the cartel office Andreas Mundt. A monopolist would have little incentive to improve the quality of broadcasting and to innovate, Mundt added.
