German Cartel Office probes brand gating agreement by Amazon and Apple

The German Federal Cartel Office, Bundeskartellamt, has started another investigation into Amazon and is also targeting Apple for its role as a supplier to Amazon, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reports. The office wants to clarify whether and to what extent Amazon cooperates with brand manufacturers at the expense of third-party retailers, Bundeskartellamt president Andreas Mundt told FAZ. Amazon offers brand manufacturers the opportunity to exclude third-party retailers from selling their products on the German Amazon marketplace, in so-called "brand gating agreements", the report said.
