German consumer electronics market grows 3% in Q1

The German consumer electronics market grew 3.1 percent year-on-year in the first quarter to a value of just under EUR 7.3 billion, according to research by GfK for industry group GFU. Growth came from entertainment electronics (+11.9%) and the consumer telecom market (+5.0%), while the IT market fell by 10.6 percent. The switch to DVB-T2 broadcasting in Germany during the quarter helped drive TV sales up 10.0 percent to almost EUR 1.1 billion. In the smartphone market, sales rose 4.3 percent, while units were down 2.3 percent.
