German govt cracks down on erotic telephony scams

The German Federal Network Agency has cut down on erotic SMS spam, shut down high-priced phone lines and banned the imposition of fees on clients over the past year. Since January, the agency has disconnected 2,600 phone numbers connected with the dissemination of nuisance SMS. In the same period, it received more than 7,200 consumer complaints. The agency also ordered the shutdown of twelve 0900 call numbers and imposed a ban on companies charging clients for connecting to these numbers.
