The head of Germany's Green Party Robert Habeck has called for Facebook to be broken up given that the social network and other digital firms can now be said to possess the market power of monopolies, reported Heise Online. Germany's cartel laws need to be further developed for the digital age and equate market power with "data power" as a result, he added. Authorities also require the power to intervene and break up internet companies where competition no longer exists, while data protection authorities need to be strengthened and algorithms made public, he added.
