German media minister supports broadcasting fee increase despite Covid-19 crisis

The German Minister of State for Culture and the Media, Monika Grutters, has defended a possible increase in the broadcasting fee, Heise Online reports. Grutter said that "political interventions are likely to damage the reputation of public service broadcasting". Recently, representatives of the Union, the alliance between the CDU and CSU parties, called for a postponement to the increase because of the coronavirus crisis. Michael Kretschmer, Prime Minister of Saxony and member of the CDU, supports the increase, Funke media group reports.
