German minister pledges EUR 10 bln in broadband investment

German Transport Minister Alexander Dorbindt announced at Cebit plans to invest billions in broadband infrastructure in the country. He expects as much EUR 10 billion in investment this year. Of the total EUR 8 billion would come from private industry, while the government provides EUR 1 billion as part of its earlier announced investment package and devotes EUR 1 billion from the proceeds of the mobile spectrum auction planned for May.
