German Ministry receives recommendations to amend cartel laws for digital age

Germany's Federal Ministry for Economics (BMWi) said it has received the results of a study looking at how Germany's competition law and instruments used by Germany's cartel authorities could be improved to more quickly and comprehensively take action against digital companies that abuse their market power. The study found that while Germany and the EU's existing competition laws are "fundamentally well-suited" to cover threats to competition in the digital age, it recommended the "intervention threshold" for anti-trust authorities should be lowered in certain cases.
