German regulator bans ping calls from Moldova, deactivates 220 mobile numbers

Monday 28 May 2018 | 16:02 CET | News
Germany's national telecoms regulator, the Federal Network Agency (BNetzA), has cracked down on illegal ping calls and issued a ban on customers being billed and charged for connections to multiple Moldovan numbers. Mobile network operators are no longer allowed to charge customers for costs that occur as a result of calls to these numbers, said the BNetzA. Customers who have already been charged for these calls should try to receive a refund from operators with the help of consumer protection agencies. The BNetzA said it received over 300 complaints from citizens over these numbers.
