German supreme court rules in favour of AdBlock Plus software

Monday 23 April 2018 | 14:39 CET | News
Germany's top court has struck down a case brought by German publisher Axel Springer seeking to ban Adblock Plus, an application that blocks online advertising, on the grounds that blocking ads violates competition law, reported Reuters. Germany's Federal Supreme Court (BGH) however ruled that online ad blockers like Adblock Plus were legal, overturning a lower court decision that found favour with the publisher. Springer also argued that ad blockers' practice of charging companies to be added to a "white list" of permitted advertisers were also equal to unfair competition.
