German telecoms regulator to analyse cable market following Vodafone-Unitymedia merger

Monday 28 May 2018 | 15:11 CET | News
Homann said it was "highly desirable" that the merger would increase "competitive pressures" on Germany's "other large provider" Telekom given that this pressure could accelerate the roll-out of broadband internet in Germany. Homann also said the German government and companies need to take the initiative and build infrastructure for fibre-optic internet in advance instead of waiting for demand to increase for these services. Otherwise, Germany will "miss the right opportunity" when demand for broadband does arrive.
