Germany, Austria fall behind on superfast broadband plans

The German and Austrian governments are falling behind with their superfast broadband coverage targets, according to research from mediareports prognos. The German Government has set a target of rolling out superfast broadband of 50 Mbps nationwide by end-2018, with the Austrian government aiming for a nationwide roll-out of at least 100 Mbps broadband by 2020. The research shows that as of end-2013, around 60 percent of German households are in areas with access to 50 Mbps broadband. In Austria, only 45 percent of homes had access to broadband speeds of 100 Mbps at end-2013. The report shows
