The German Federal Ministry of Finance is examining the possibility to apply a 15 percent withholding tax on online advertisements on foreign-owned platforms, Wiro.de reports. The advertising fee would be paid initially by German advertisers to foreign internet platforms such as Google or Facebook and considered a withholding tax on royalties, to be refunded later to the German customers. This is necessary because the German authorities do not have the ability to levy tax on foreign companies.
