Germany's Eco calls data retention rules unrealistic

German internet industry association Eco has criticised the federal government's requirements for data retention by internet providers. Earlier this week, the Federal Network Agency released specifications outlining how the data retention regime is to be implemented by internet providers as of July 2017. Eco board member Oliver Sume said the requirements place "unrealistically high demands" on the necessary measures for data protection and data security. He reaffirmed Eco's position that the introduction of data retention was ill-advised, and went on to say the implementation of the regime
