Ghana's National Communications Authority (NCA) said it received applications for licences in the 800 MHz band from four companies by the deadline on 09 November. They are Scancom Ghana (MTN), Surfline Communications, Goldkey Telecom and Migson Communications. The industry regulator said it will assess the eligibility of the applicants before inviting them to participate in the auction.
Applicants should possess a certificate of incorporation, certificate to commence business and company regulations from the registrar-general's department as well as hold, where applicable, up-to-date certificates of income tax and payment of SSNIT contributions of staff. Winners will be picked through a Multiple Round Simultaneous Auction outlined on the authority's website. The CA intends to issue two spectrum licences in the 800 MHz band in lots of 2 x 10 MHz for a ten-year period, with provision for technology neutrality and service neutrality.
