Global average internet speed increases 12% in Q4

The average download speed across the world rose to 7.0 Mbps in the fourth quarter of 2016, up 12 percent from the previous quarter and 26 percent more than a year earlier, according to Akamai's latest 'State of the Internet' report. South Korea showed the best results on all measures. It posted the best download speed, at 26.1 Mbps on average, followed by Norway at 23.6 Mbps. It also had the highest share of connections over 4 Mbps, at 97 percent, matched also by Guernsey and Malta. The UK showed the highest average mobile connection speed, at 26.8 Mbps, while Venezuela ranked lowest at 2.9
