Global shipments for wearables soar 82% in Q4 driven by hearables - study

Global shipments for wearables soared in the fourth quarter by 82.3 percent from the year before to a new high of 118.9 million devices, led by Apple and Xiaomi, according to the latest study from IDC. Growth was driven largely by hearables, which took over half (55.3%) of the entire market. Other popular categories included smartwatches, up 15.3 percent year-on-year and wrist bands, up 17.7 percent. The share of wrist-worn devices fell to 43.8 percent of the total market from 68.6 percent the year earlier, but the category itself grew 16.3 percent over the same period. For the full year,
