Global smartphone sales fall to 321 mln units in Q1 - study

A new study has confirmed the first-ever annual decline in worldwide smartphone shipments, with the market shifting 321 million units in the first quarter of 2016 compared to 324 million the year earlier, according to Canalys. The global fall was caused by shipment declines among the top two vendors, Samsung and above all Apple, which sold 11 million fewer units in the first quarter, a 16 percent year on year drop. LG, Lenovo and TCL-Alcatel also posted significant declines, while Sony plummeted by around 57 percent, said the report. However, overall smartphone shipments increased 5 percent
