Global smartphone shipments to fall over 2% this year on coronavirus impact - IDC

Friday 28 February 2020 | 10:17 CET | News
The expected return to growth of worldwide smartphone shipments this year will not materialise due to the impact on supply chains of the coronavirus outbreak, according to the latest report from IDC. At the end of last year the researcher said it expected a 1.5 percent rise in smartphone shipments to 1.4 billon in 2020 but has now downgraded that prediction to around 1.34 billion, a 2.3 percent decline. "While China, the largest smartphone market, will take the biggest hit, other major geographies will feel the hit from supply chain disruptions," said the report.
