Global SVOD households to hit 428 mln by 2021 - study

Households receiving SVOD (subscription video on demand) services are set to increase to 428 million across 200 countries by 2021, up from 177 million in 2015, according to the latest data from Digital TV Research. In 2016 alone, the worldwide total is set to grow to 248 million by the end of December, up by 70 million year on year. Although the US remains the biggest SVOD market, reaching 127 million by 2021, China is fast closing the gap. Chinese subscribers are set to increase by 34 million over the next five years to reach 74 million in 2021 even though Netflix is unlikely to secure
